HSN codes, explained simply
HSN stands for Harmonized System of Nomenclature. It is an international system of numbers that classifies goods, and GST uses it to fix the tax rate for each product.
How many digits do I need?
It depends on your turnover. Up to ₹5 crore you generally show a 4-digit HSN on B2B invoices; above ₹5 crore you show 6 digits. More digits mean a more specific product.
Finding the right code
Search by product name in our HSN/SAC code finder to get the code and its usual GST rate. For services you use a SAC code instead.
